Well, the Olympics are finally over. I don’t remember when they started, but I’m pretty sure it was sometime last year. Now that all the hype has died down, my eyes have finally unglazed and I can look back on some of the things I learned:
1. Everyone is Canadian.
Seriously, does every celebrity I’ve heard of hail from the Yukon? We’ve got an immigration problem, apparently. Michael J. Fox, Avril Lavigne, and apparently everyone from the funny years of SNL… I’m still a little shell-shocked, and feeling less secure about my global dominance. Oh well, at least we have James Bond.
2. Any activity, with ice added, is considered a Winter Olympic Sport.
Ice dancing, really? Last time I checked, the Waltz is not an event for the Summer Games!* I think we can get a little creative with some new events, like ice glass-blowing or ice math.
3. If you show something enough on TV, I will eventually care deeply about it.
Be honest, you didn’t even know the Winter Olympics had started, and yesterday you would’ve skipped your kid’s birthday to watch the USA v. Canada gold medal hockey game. It has opened my eyes to the master-plan of all TV media! Think about it, ESPN and Nascar, Lifetime and being suspicious of men, and CNBC with Curling.
What did the Olympics teach you?
*FYI, the last time I checked was 3 minutes ago on Wikipedia
True… somehow curling is a must see event. I do like the ice math idea. Those kids are skinny… first one to develop blue lip loses! Also, Ice swimming would be neat. I bet Michael Phelps would OWN this event…
